  • Hungary – Drivers Licences

    Inland Waterways: Minimum age 18, up to 20 meters. Sailing boats above 10 m2 and motorboats over 4 kW needs lthe icense “Certificate of competence for pleasure craft operations”. Coastal Waterways and Open sea: Cat IV. up to 3 nm, Cat III. up to 12 nm, Cat II. up to 200 nm, Cat I. no limit. Upgrading to a higher category needs experience. Cat I-II needs ROC

  • Ireland – Drivers Licences

    No compulsory licences.

  • Portugal – Drivers Licences

    6 categories of driving licenses: Carta de Principiante (Beginner’s Card) permitting driving boats up to 5 m and 4.5 kW in daylight navigation up to 1 NM from the shore. Carta de Marinheiro (Sailor’s Card) for ages of 14 to 16, permitting driving boats up to 5 m and 22.5 kW in daylight navigation up to 3 NM from the coast and 6 NM from a shelter. Carta de Marinheiro (Sailor’s Card) for ages of 18 or more permitting driving boats up to 7 m and 45 kW in daylight navigation up to 3 NM from the coast and 6 NM from a shelter. Patrao Local (Local Skipper) permitting driving boats in navigation up to 5 NM from the coast and 10 NM from a shelter. Patrao de Costa (Coastal Skipper) permitting driving boats in navigation up to 25 NM from the coast. Patrao de Alto Mar (Deep Sea Skipper) permitting driving boats without navigation limits.

  • Switzerland – Drivers Licences

    Motorboats more than 6kW. Sailboats more than 15m2 sail area. Acceptance of foreign drivers licences

  • Denmark – Drivers Licences

    Compulsory licence for planing powerboats covering users above 16 years and boats with engines above 18 kW/25 HP and for all boats with a length above 15 m. Voluntary for users of other boats, and the sailboat certificate is approved to powerboats. For all boats where license is compulsory plus for PWC : prohibition against steering or otherwise working aboard with a blood alcohol level above 0.50 0/00.

  • Cyprus – Drivers Licences

    Coastal Waters: Law 56(I)1992 (High Speed Craft Law) Compulsory Driver Licence for any vessels of L.O.A. equal or less than 15 metres able to speed equal to above 15 knots. Detailed regulations of the above are pending.

  • Finland – Drivers Licences

    No compulsory licences. The driver of a registered boat (sailboat, motorboat or PWC) must be over 15 years old. r

  • Greece – Boat Licensing and Skippers Certificates

    No Compulsory License required

  • Belgium – Drivers Licences

    Inland Waterways: Any craft > 15m and faster than 20km/h requires a license. Coastal Waters: No license is required for the sea.

  • Netherlands – Drivers Licences

    Driving licences for all boats longer than 15m and for motorboats fasther than 20 km/hr are in force.
