The International Council of Marine Industry Associations’ (ICOMIA) Super Yacht Applicator Group welcomed its seventh member, Bonsink Yacht Painters.
The ICOMIA Super Yacht Applicator Group was formed in November 2011 and comprises leading independent paint applicators who wish to maintain and improve quality within the Group, follow professional working standards and meet specified environmental best practices.
Led by Derk Bonsink, Bonsink Yacht Painters is an all-round international painting company specialising in water sports since 1982. Based in Zwartsluis and Makkum in The Netherlands, Bonsink boasts extensive experience, with highly skilled professionals promising to tackle any job – whether it’s a 5 meter or 150 meter yacht. Throughout the years the yacht painters of Bonsink have gained extensive experience in yacht construction, both nationally and internationally.
The ICOMIA Super Yacht Applicator Group’s key issue is to improve communications between themselves and coating/paint manufacturers. For example, one of the biggest challenges that paint applicators encounter are the changes, of which they are unaware, in the formulation of paint product and paint system which may cause application problems and make it difficult to achieve the required quality. Coatings remain a significant and almost unique issue for the superyacht industry since visual appearance provokes such critical interest from the owner – therefore specific initiatives are now being taken to address this critical issue. In addition, the Applicator Group acts as a centralised body to serve, inform and update the super yacht applicators of new international regulations that they specifically need to comply with and to maintain good relations with international organisations, Governments and other bodies on behalf of the industry.
Chaired by Chris Atkinson, Director, ACA Marine France, the Group includes: Klaver Yacht Painting International BV; Pinmar; Rolling Stock; PYP Painting; Superyacht Solutions and Bonsink Yacht Painters.
