The China Cruise and Yacht Industry Association (CCYIA) has been approved as a full member of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA). The decision was made by the ICOMIA Executive Committee on Friday 31 August 2012.
CCYIA is a subordinate of the China Communications and Transportation Association. Established in 2006, CCYIA is a nationwide non-for-profit organisation which has been authorised by the Chinese Government to ensure the healthy growth of two emerging industries in China. Led by Honorary Chairman, Mr Qian Yongchang, CCYIA’s mission is to promote China’s cruise and yacht industries and establish China as a major destination for international cruise lines and cross-region recreational sailing. In addition, CCYIA aims to create cooperation and open conversation between China and other countries regarding cruise and yachting activities and to encourage ‘sea culture’ to be part of peoples’ lives in China. CCYIA represents its members politically; issuing Government policy proposals and maintaining the sustainability of cruise and yachting in China.
To meet the requirements of full membership in ICOMIA, applicants must be a national marine industry association and legally incorporated. After meeting the criteria, CCYIA has joined ICOMIA as its second Chinese member; the China Boat Industry and Trade Association (CBITA) joined ICOMIA in 2010 and liaise with Government and industry to promote the development of recreational boating in China. CCYIA brings the number of full ICOMIA members to 35. ICOMIA’s members include marine industry associations from the vast majority of industrialised countries from North America across to Japan and from Finland down to New Zealand. Tony Rice, ICOMIA Secretary General, welcomed CCYIA to the global ICOMIA family saying “we very much look forward to working with CCYIA in the development of the Chinese market”.
