This episode is hosted by Ben Taylor https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-taylor-digital-marine/ and sponsored by AkzoNobel https://www.akzonobel.com/en.

In the second episode of the ICOMIA Podcast Ben interviews the Secretary General of the European Boating Industry (EBI) Philip Easthill.

Philip begins the interview talking about the two key areas of focus for EBI:

  1. Representation – government, lobbying, public affairs and policy
  2. Identifying challenges within the industry and working towards solving them.

He then goes on to talk about the strategic partnership agreement between ICOMIA and EBI and how this works with EBI focusing and specialising at the EU level, whilst ICOMIA represents the industry from a global perspective.

Philip then goes on to talk about one of the main projects for EBI, the Global Lifecycle Assessment project that has just been announced between ICOMIA, EBI and NMMA and how this adds to the Propelling our Future project by giving the industry the tools to understand the environmental impact of products but also how environmental performance can be improved.

Philip goes on to say that if the recreational boating industry doesn’t develop its own solutions, others will decide for the industry and it is important that they provides a link between companies and policymakers to ensure that works for everyone involved.

This is a key element of EBI’s work, ensuring that the industry is well prepared in advance of any proposed legislation, ensuring best practices in all areas can be assessed by a lifecycle assessment including; raw materials, production, energy sources, fuel availability and end of life boats.
