It is the tradition of IMEC meetings that each member company takes it in turn to host the bi-annual meeting of this crucial ICOMIA working committee.
This meeting was organised by Cummins who welcomed over 25 delegates to the city of Oxford in the UK, from as far East as Japan and as far West as the USA and Canada. This group represents nearly the full spectrum of the marine industry’s propulsion and engine system developers, including Cummins, Yamaha, Volve Penta, BRP, Tohatsu, Mercury, Brunswick, Suzuki, Vetus, Kawasaki, Ilmor and many of their collective subsidiaries.
The agenda was packed full of pressing issues, most notably about how we develop our industry in line with global sustainability and regulatory frameworks and legislations. We enjoyed case studies of best practises, both technical and political, from around the world with a focus on the accelerated adoption of sustainable “drop in” liquid fuels, that we know can make an instantaneous transformation to the environmental impact of our boats.
We reviewed the current list of topics under legislative scrutiny, so that our members get early warning of consultative process and legal changes, allowing us all to play a part in the effective development of the best regulatory frameworks
A large part of this meeting was also dedicated to discussing how the collective skills and experience of this community can be harnessed to create a truly global approach to adopting our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) strategy.
Finally we made plans to update how we capture and share even more of our product output data, so that we can supply our industry with the very latest and most accurate product and trading trends.
